Keeping Sheep & Crafting

We have ONLY 2 courses on offer this year at two locations.

This course is run by both myself Emma Bennett and Esther Howie with a maximum of 12 people on the course.

Tyddynys, Llangefni, Anglesey

Maes Mawr, Llanllyfni LL54 6DG

Cost: £110.00 including lunch and a cream tea to end the day. 

10.00am - Tea/coffee and welcome

10.20am - 1pm - An introduction to keeping sheep

We will cover the legalities of keeping sheep, land management as well as discussing the need for sheep handling areas. We will cover The Sheep Year taking you through the 12 months of sheep care, from health issues, shearing and breeding. We will discuss basic welfare first aid and hoof trimming. You will be able to meet the sheep and get up close.

 

We will do some myth busting about sheep.

1pm - 2pm -  Lunch

 

A chance to have a sit down and enjoy a professionally prepared lunch. We can cater for vegetarians, vegans and any food intolerances. Please let us know when you book.

2pm - 5pm - Crafting

 

Esther Howie will talk you through the different types of fleeces briefly before introducing you to washing and preparing raw fleece. You will be able to view a demonstration of carding and spinning wool, Esther will then show you how to felt wool into crafts or alternatively you can use a peg loom and create a seat pad.

5pm - Cream Tea

Dependant on what time you finish your crafting you will be able to enjoy a cream tea with a cream scone to finish the day. You can chat about your experiences and have the opportunity to ask any further questions you may have.

Once your place(s) have been booked you will receive a email with a confirmation of your place(s) on the workshop and you will receive the full welcome pack and directions to our home.

We will be splitting the group into a group of 6 or each part of the day and rotating through the two halves of the workshop.

We do not offer accommodation here at Maes Mawr, however a number of smallholders and farms around us do. If you want to make a weekend of it please check out these places.

What To Wear

Please bring suitable wet weather clothing, including wellies. We cannot predict the weather in advance, we are living on the boundary to the mountain range of Snowdonia and it can be subject to sudden changes. We will still be outside even if it rains. Also just incase bring sun cream and a hat should we have sun! You may want to consider a change of shoes for travelling home in, just in case.

If you'd like to bring a note book feel free however we will provide print outs of the day for you to keep. We welcome any photographs to be taken. Please enjoy yourself.

Cancellation Policy

In the unlikely event that we need to cancel the workshop we will offer you an alternative set of dates to choose from, if these are not suitable to you we will refund you in full. However, should you need to cancel we request that you do so no less than 7 days notice to the course date. We are only a small business and we will have already placed the order for the food for that date. We reserve the right to make a full charge for any cancellations made with less than 7 days notice.

We are happy to accommodate smaller groups, if you as a couple or family are on holiday locally and you would like to spend the day with us please give me a call directly on 07766 028 202. We are able and happy to accommodate smaller groups but we need 3 days notice to arrange the catering.

Please be aware that every aspect to the day will be risk assessed and we will be covid compliant.  

You will be asked to wash your hands when you arrive, hand sanitiser will be available throughout the day and there will be opportunities for you to wash your hands after each experience. If you wish to wear a mask when indoors then please feel free to do so. We want you to be comfortable with the day and to feel safe. Equally please do not attend if feeling unwell.
